Where do the currency exchange numbers come from? It’s not some guy setting it to certain price every day? It fluctuates in a matter of seconds? So what exactly calculates the number every second? Is it some kind of 1 supercomputer? Or how does it work?

I have a decent amount of seed money from playing poker semi-professionally and feel I would do well in currency trading. I have enough for sign-up minimum at most online exchange sites. I need reliable and up to date information on currency trading.

If would be helpful if you post your credentials along with your answers (though no necessary)

I have friends who have been here all year on a foreign exchange program…

They are both girls around seventeen. One is from Germany and one is from China. I want to give them something to remember us, the U.S. and their stay by, but I want to be sensitive to the fact that they probably don’t have much packing room…

My friend recently began to invest in commodities. He bought a USD gold coin (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/American_Buffalo_%28coin%29) for somewhere around a thousand dollars. My question is why has society determined that this gold piece is worth more than 50 dollars. I’m confused because gold is valuable because of its material properties (doesn’t rust etc.) but once the U.S. government mints the coin or prints the money it doesn’t matter what it is or what it is made of it has the value that is printed on it. A 0 bill is worth 100 even though it is printed on the same paper as a bill and it seems to me that a coin should be worth .
